Change Of Plans

Not my actual MRI - Just a depiction

This week I had hoped to share some words and images from my little bike tour. I thought I’d be gushing about my Tumbleweed Sunliner and sharing those big a ha moments that come from time away on my bike. Unfortunately, things changed. Time for a new plan.

For a good part of 2026 I had been having some right knee pain. In my weekly strength training I had quit using weights for certain movements and activities. I actually enjoyed just doing body weight movements and focusing on form and movement. As the summer progressed, I was having significant pain with body weights and eventually my knee developed fluid on the knee. Long story short, the knee just decided to stop working and reduced my range of motion. As I attempted to continue, pain came next. OK…Time to get this checked out.

I did get it checked out and as a result, I’ve got some scheduled service to clean up some torn and rough cartilage. I also need to give it some time for the bone irritation to heal and build more muscular strength and stability in the knees. Thankfully, cycling is one of the best things to do as it is low impact and has no side to side, or lateral, movement. However, I did find out that maybe technical mountain biking is not the best choice. The body language, power inputs and impacts of hitting rocks & roots creates tremendous pain. My path forward is going to have to be casual cycling.

Black Hills Divide

So since I can’t really go on a short tour and gush on and on about how much I love my TW Sunliner, I am going to revisit my original tour on this at the time prototype Sunliner. I am digging into the images this week. It’s not the same and it isn’t helping my mental state the same way as doing a new tour but it sure is fun to look back at these images.

More to come.
