Picture Of the Month
In an effort to challenge myself and feed my passion for learning & creating, I set a personal goal to create one photo, print or art piece every month that taught me something new or that I really love.
March 2026 - And they say fat biking is fun.
I’d respond with well maybe not in March!! So…I found a way to simply accept the heavy snowfall & cold in March and make it fun. Fatbikes are fun!

February 26 - February Slump
A rare, warm February day. Valentine’s Day, in fact. I took the chance to go get some actual road/pavement miles in. The wind was still cold, but the sun was glorious.
Honestly, for the entire month of February I took about 10 pictures so the pool of images is my lowest in my history with photography. I am in a real mental slump because of what is happening in MN and our country right now. It has somehow crushed my creativity.
So I had just a handful of images to pick from and this image is nothing special. But a challenge is a challenge right? So this is it.
You don’t always get what you want, you get what you need.

January 2026 - Sunset Dinner
This may have been my easiest POM selection yet. My wife and I escaped the cold, MN winter and did a long trip to Costa Rica. On our last night in Costa Rica we scheduled a private sunset dinner at the place we stayed. Absolutely amazing and absolutely stunning. Sadly, we both got food poisoning or something on this last night, but this is what I actually remember the most. What a view.

December 2025 - Moots Cycles, Steamboat Springs.
I had the pleasure of a long weekend with my closest friends and brother in Steamboat Springs, CO. I love Steamboat. I also love titanium bicycles and the ‘Boat is home to both Bingham Built and Moots titanium bicycles. We toured both.
I was, and am, mesmerized with all the titanium tubing. One of my favorite shots of 2024 was taken of the same wall of tubing at Moots. This one struck me though as the little starburst of light coming through the tubes made me think it was a reminder that while expensive, titanium IMHO really is the ultimate bicycle material

November 2025 - Get while the Getting is Good
November is a crap shoot here in MN. You might have snow and cold. You might have a perfect day with cool blue skies. You take what you can get so when the sky was blue and the temps were warm, I hit the country on my WHB.
I stopped to get some photos of the WHB with my new alt bars I purchased from FB Marketplace when I saw the shape of the shadow and thought this would be a fun image to use the flip function and dyptic feature of the Fujifilm X Half. Again, just having fun and for me, that is what photography is for me right now.

October 2025 - Morning Miles
When I used to actually attempt to train and do endurance events, the morning hours were my time to ride. Somehow I had the opportunity to leave early and ride all day. As I pedaled out of the city and into the country I looked down and saw this image. I loved how the light blew out the clarity of the actual tire and projected a large shadow that made me feel like I was riding my fatbike. It snapped a few pics and then rode on, waiting for the sun rise.
As noted, I love the light and shadows in this images. I also really love the texture and feel of this image.

September 2025 - Celebration
September brings my wife’s birthday. It is also the month that we’ve spent blocks of time in Colorado. Sadly, this year this did not happen. To celebrate her birthday and to ease the pain of not being in Colorado, we took several days to explore MN’s North Shore doing what we love, hiking. After a really long hike on the Superior Hiking Trail, we celebrated her birthday with a drink on the waterfront and dinner at The Angry Trout.
What a day. What a fun way to celebrate.

August 2025 - You get two POM’s for August.
We had a family wedding and our kids were able to join us. This image is about joy and a little experimentation. I have spent much of my photography life focused on the outdoors and action. I rarely ever use flash and I never have been into filters. In this case, I tried both; a little fill flash and a light diffusion filter to soften the images. I really like it, but of course, I am also biased as I don’t get to see my kids together very often. So that is why I chose this image and a second POM for August!

August 2025 - Fresh Perspetive
I was out on my Tumbleweed Stargazer and stumbled into a new way to do a bike profile that I liked and thought was fresh. I shot this and processed in camera in my Fujifilm X-Half camera. It’s not for everyone, but I like it! I’ll admit, part of the fun was learning and creating with this little toy camera.

July 2025 - A Day in the Country
A glorious day in the country with my Meriwether Rando. This is a multi exposure shot with some of my favorites moments of the ride.

June 2025 - Freedom Machine
After a slow start to riding in 2025, June was a great month. I found my freedom aboard my bicycle. Good rides. Good Adventures. Good friends. I chose this images simply because of the feeling. It’s not my best shot and a little out of focus, but that’s OK. For me, photography and art are about the feeling and experience and this on just does it for me. I also like the color green!

May 2025 - We went to my brother’s lake home after my mother’s funeral. Being at the lake was part of my childhood. There is nothing like an evening cruise on the pontoon with friends, family, food and drink. My mom loved the lake. It was a really special part of our childhood.
The lake that my brother and sister in law live is connected to another lake via a short tunnel under the highway. I was sitting in the back of the pontoon just taking it all in when little Amos stepped to the front of the boat . I love everything about this image. The view. The curiosity. The hand. The framing. The memories of my youth. Thoughts of my mom. It’s just magical to me.
Leica M262 with Light Lens Lab, Elcan 50mm f2
April 2025 - I chose this for April’s POM for a couple of reasons. The first being, life has been a bit hectic and I seek seclusion and solace. The second being, I have needed a lot of contemplative time since my mother passed away in late March. I find such peace, or calmness, in this image. I guess it helps too that I am riding a bike that I am a bit smitten with of late too. I just want to go to this spot and sit for a long, long while to sort out all that is going on in my life and this world.

March 2025 - March may have been a creative low for me with all that was going on in my life, the crappy weather that kept from riding my bicycle outside and the loss of my mother. Looking back now at images from March, my favorites are the ones that make me laugh a little or smile. This one is my favorite.
My wife commissioned an artist to create a large, wall print of our much loved pooch. We received the final proof and somehow our little dog that never listens to us struck the perfect pose.
This image makes me laugh and smile. This image also reminds me that things don’t always have to be so serious and that photography can be as simple as capturing a moment that makes you smile.

February 2025 - I never tire of lines to infinity. It will forever signify the journey, discovery and hope for me. I loved how the snow filled the tire track and lined up with the road on the horizon. I love that it is a little crooked, but it still goes on and on. I also like it because in all my years of riding, I have never shot something similar. I guess it’s possible to see new images even after all these years of riding and shooting.
Nikon ZF with Voigtlander Z Mount 15mm f4.5
January 2025 - I first saw, and attempted to get, this shot back in December 2024 but didn’t like the results. . I saw the fresh beaver cut out on one of the trees as I pedaled by. I thought it might be interesting to frame a subject with the beaver’s fresh work. I shot this both vertically and horizontally. I preferred the vertical with the tighter framing and how the chewed out tree spans the entire frame from top to bottom.
