Klunk and Go Slow!
The Meriwether Cycles KlunkPacker isn’t clowning around!
After almost a year of hanging in the garage, the Meriwether Cycles Klunkpacker is on the trail again! I took the morning to do a Minnesota River Ramble aboard the rig. It sorta felt like I was riding it for the first time given it had been over a year. It also felt like it was yesterday. Dang I love this rig!
I started the rebuild a few weeks ago and hit a snag with the crank/chainring set up I wanted to run so I put it away until I had more time. With the long weekend and my wife up in North Dakota visiting family, I had 3 days at home alone. Danger! The garage saw pretty much every bike I own hit the stand for one reason or another. I got serious about the Klunk on Friday night when I swapped crank and BB with my Tumbleweed Sunliner.
What’s changed from the previous build?
Shimano XT 12 speed driveline
Modern boost, SLX crankset with 36t Wolftooth ring
Black Sheep Mountain Mustache titanium Bar
I have a few more changes in store for this rig, but it’s 90% there. I enjoyed every minute of my river ramble this AM. I do want some 2.5” or bigger tires though, both for comfort as well as float in the sand.
This rig is just what I needed. Klunk, go slow and take some pictures. That’s the ticket! Here are a few pics from today.
The standard side profile. It’s a looker!
The curvey Black Sheep Mountain Mustache bar is perfect on this rig!
My new Heywood bottles look pretty darn good on this rig!
Here’s my parting shot for the day. I took some time right here to just sit and take it all in. As the title says, Klunk and go slow! I needed this time in the woods to prepare for yet another busy, busy week. I’m happy to took time to really soak it in and burn it into my memory for future meditative purposes.
A peaceful moment on the KlunkPacker
For camera nerds, today’s images were shot on a 16 year old, Olympus EP1 camera and 15 year old Panasonic 20mm f1.7 lens.. While the camera is a bit slow to operate and focus, it’s still got the goods!
