The Klunker Ride
On what may have been the year’s most perfect morning for riding a bike, I had a decision to make. Do I enjoy this perfect day by maximizing miles in the country or just go “KLUNK'“ and see what the day, and route, brings me? Well…..I chose the klunker . It was the perfect choice.
Life is filled with choices. Some big. Some small. While either of the above choices would have been perfect for the day, I am glad I chose to ride my Meriwether klunkpacker and see what the day brings me. I threw on some cruiser style wheels with the lovely Vittoria Torreno 2.3” tires and headed north bound toward Minneapolis and the MN River Valley.
The Rogue Panda Designs Bamboo Shoots on my Meriwether, double bend ti handlebar
If you have checked in here at PedalClickCreate, you likely have seen my WHB Ripper with my wild Black Sheep Ti cruiser bar with aero bar attachment. I continue to experiment with flat bar’s on my fun, adventure and touring style of bikes. With the Bamboo Shoots I can get the same benefits with the ability to tweak and modify the position. I can also take them off when I put the 2.5” knobby tires & suspension fork and treat this bike as a mountain bike. I like this set up and intend to put it on a different rig that I am in the process of building and speccing out. They are not quite right for this bike, but with the few rides I have had on this rig with this bar set up, I really like.
The last thing I will say about the Meriwether Klunker is that I am finally fully committed to making some new frame bags for this rig. It is now down in the work shop. Hopefully in the near future I can show you the final set up. Maybe I can squeeze in a Sub 24 hour overnight this fall with this rig. We’ll see.
But here are a few pics from the day. As I wrote in my previous post, I am finally starting to see images again and photography is slowing coming back into my grasp!
Fields of yellow were everywhere throughout the MN River Valley
Those yellow flowers left my grips, levers, gloves, arms and hands covered in yellow pollen! Crazy!
I did divert from the MN River Valley and make a quick stop at Backstory Coffee. I mean why not, right?
And I’ll leave you with this parting shot. One of my favorites in a while. Somehow I never tire of under the bridge shots and I saw this opportunity to use the sun for some crazy flare. It’s my favorite of the day.
A little sun flair, dirt and graffiti - 3 of my favorite things!
